This is a European biocidal Directive Aimed at limiting the placing on the market of biocidal products only for efficient products and not presenting unacceptable risks. The aim is therefore to ensure a level of protection for humans, animals and the environment. The biocide directive Also aims to harmonise the regulation of the Member States of the European Union and to guarantee the uniqueness of the market.
What is a biocidal product?
A biocidal product contains one or more active substances intended to destroy, repel or render harmless pests, prevent or otherwise combat harmful organisms, by chemical or biological action.
APABIO Disinfectant and biocide directive
IBL Specifik Offers its customers the biocidal product APABIO, biodegradable and not harmful to humans and their environment. This disinfectant does not contain formaldehyde, chlorine, formaldehyde, phenol or heavy metals. It is made up of products that are in the natural state.
What will be the products authorised by the biocide directive?
Manufacturers of biocidal products must submit their dossier to the rapporteur Member State. The assessment of substances is first and foremost at Community level and results in or without the inclusion of these substances on positive lists (referred to as annexes I, IA and IB of the biocide directive 98/8/EC). Subsequently, authorisation of biocidal products will be carried out at national level. Only products listed on the positive lists can be placed on the market. In France, the Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development is responsible for implementing regulations at the national level.
The products will only be allowed if their active substances are registered in annex I or IA of the European directive, and if it is established that their action is sufficiently effective, that it has no unacceptable effect on human or animal health () directly or indirectly, for example through drinking water, food for consumption, etc., that it has no effect on the environment and that the proper use, storage and transport of the product is ensured.
A biocidal product classified as mutagenic or carcinogenic will not be allowed to be marketed to the general public.
Among the banned substances, there will be all those composed of heavy metals, of which the silver ions are part. Thus, disinfectant products containing silver ions will be withdrawn from the market.
